Special Awards
Golden Apple Award
As has happened since the award was initiated for the Baltimore City College 1993-1994 school year, the Golden Apple Award goes to the faculty member who has done the most in the current school year to affect the retention of students at the Baltimore City College.
Ballots cast by six authorized selection participants determine the recipient of each school year’s Golden Apple Award. The six authorized selection participants include the Baltimore City College Principal or the Principals designee, the President of the Parent Teacher Student Association or the President’s designee, the Immediate Past President of the Alumni Association, the Chair of the Guidance Department, the President of the Student Government Association, and the President of the Senior Class.
To formally recognize the recipient, the presentation of an honorarium check occurs during the BCC graduating senior class commencement. The amount made available for the honorarium in the past was $500.
This amount was increased to $1000 in 2021.
Funding for the Golden Apple Award comes from unrestricted contributions to the Annual Fund of the Alumni Association.

Leo Sirota Memorial Award
The recipient of the Leo Sirota Memorial Award must be a BCC Alumni Association member or a BCC alumni or a friend of BCC. The recipient must have made the most significant contribution to the furtherance of the Alumni Association and the Baltimore City College during the twelve-month period – October through September – prior to the organization’s annual meeting in November.
The Alumni Association selection committee for the Leo Sirota Memorial Award chooses the recipient after a review of nominations that may be submitted by active, associate, and honorary life members of the Alumni Association.
Since the late 1990’s, to formally recognize the recipient, a plaque presentation has occurred during the annual meeting of the BCC Alumni Association.
