BALTIMORE – The Torch Burning Bright campaign will officially kick off a major $2 million effort for Baltimore City College High School’s new library on January 20, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. The Torch Burning Bright campaign is working in partnership with Baltimore City Public Schools, City College alumni, parents, students, faculty and the larger Baltimore community to build a cutting-edge academic hub suitable for the nationally renowned college-preparatory school now in its 176th year. The campaign will raise the funds needed to build a new library in a building that opened in 1928. Funds will also be used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, including computers with ready access to online databases and other digital resources. The goal is to create a modern academic center where students can research and learn and be well-equipped to meet the demands of the digital age. The installation of a new technology infrastructure will enable a significant number of students to gain Internet access that they currently lack. The Torch Burning Bright campaign is co-chaired by two City College alumni, University of Baltimore President and former Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke and Abell Foundation President Robert Embry. In just six months, Torch Burning Bright has secured nearly $674,000 in contributions and commitments from individuals, foundations and corporations, as well as the Baltimore City Public Schools. Among the many contributors are the Abell Foundation, the France-Merrick Foundation and the Goldseker Foundation. Wells Fargo is sponsoring the campaign kickoff assembly. For decades, City College has produced alumni who have been successful leaders in business, government and the arts. This campaign will help ensure that this tradition of excellence continues for generations to come. ![]() The 27th edition of the CITY-POLY alumni association(s) Golf Tournament is again history.
