M.A., Journalism and Communications, The Ohio State University, 2003
B.S., Telecommunications, Morgan State University, 2002

Monique Armstrong is a communications professional and entrepreneur, with more than 10 years of experience providing public relations, event-marketing, and volunteer management services to various non-profit and for-profit organizations. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) where she coordinates career and volunteer programs. In her role as entrepreneur, Monique operates M Style Events, a full-service event management company specializing in producing small-to-medium scale social events for individuals and organizations.

She was elected to the board in 2008, after having success in co-chairing her 10-year class reunion which produced a turnout of more than 150 alumni and friends, a mini-scholarship to a graduating senior and a contribution to the band uniform fund. Her service to the board includes work on the membership committee as the chair of the Women of City sub-committee. This sub-committee is organized to implement alumnae networking and fundraising events and provide informal mentoring to current female students. During her time at Baltimore City College, Monique was an active member of the Marching Knights as a flag girl and captain of the inaugural dance team. She also served as class president during her junior year and co-manager of the men’s basketball team during her senior year.  At graduation, she was awarded an alumni association scholarship toward her undergraduate studies at Morgan State University.

Monique brings a host of energy and enthusiasm to the board through her diverse personal and professional experiences. Her passion and commitment to service has afforded her numerous accolades, including the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award in 2008 and The Miss Black USA Service Award in 2007 (during her reign as Miss Black Maryland 2007), for her work with youth and underrepresented groups.  She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, and is active in her church. She has lived in California, Ohio and Pennsylvania and has traveled extensively to several Caribbean and African countries. When she is not working, serving, or traveling, she enjoys reading, dancing and sipping on a nice cup of tea (not all at the same time, of course).
