Carla Henry Hopkins '83
1 YEAR TERM
Carla Henry Hopkins has served the Johns Hopkins University Office of Multicultural Affairs for ten years. Presently as the Director for External Affairs, she is responsible for the development and implementation of multicultural and diversity competencies and initiatives between the Hopkins and Baltimore communities. She is also responsible for the partnering with agencies, associations and institutions in terms of program development and community outreach. In her professional capacity, she has serves on numerous committees, boards and councils.
Carla is also active in various community projects. Currently, she is finishing her term as the first female president of the Baltimore City College Alumni Association where she also serves as a member of the board of trustees. She has also recently completed terms as a PTA president and vice president at Baltimore City College and Roland Park Elementary/Middle schools respectively. A public school education advocate, Carla avails her service to various groups and organizations within the Baltimore City Public School System and other educational organizations. She is also a member of the Loch Raven Improvement Association, her neighborhood association.
She has been a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Baltimore, Maryland for thirty-eight years and has served her church community extensively through the Young People’s Department (YPD), the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS), the Lay Organization and other in-house ministries. She has also served as a church trustee and as co-chair for the Baltimore Annual Conference.
Carla is married to Jonathan Hopkins Sr. and is the mother of three, Catrina, Olivia and Cayla; the bonus mom of two, Jonathan Jr. and Alexis and the grandmother of Alexander Wayman.
